  I had an appointment today at 4.30pm, which was booked several months ahead. This meant taking time off work to leave early. I arrived 25 minutes early for the appointment to be told that it was cancelled in February by text message. I explained that I had not received a text. I was then told that we had contacted you to cancel the appointment. I explained that I needed to see a dentist and asked if someone was available. I was told that there wasn't and they proceeded to make another appointment without asking me. I told them not to make another appointment. I then asked who I could complain to. They gave me contact number for a practice manager who was at another location. After contacting her, she confirmed that they had sent a text message but to my wife's number. I explained that this was not acceptable (after speaking with my wife she confirmed that there was no text message). However if she had received a text message that she knew nothing about she would have deleted it as a possible scam. The big issue is that they were allegedly sending out text messages of a confidential nature without the consent of myself - therefore breaching client confidentiality. I kept the card with my appointment and arrived on time for this. They should have contacted me by post or actually have spoken to me directly to ensure the cancellation message was received. Instead I have wasted valuable time off work and I now have to go back to my new employers to explain that the appointment was cancelled. The practice manager has offered me an appointment for Saturday with a dentist and practice that I do not know. I explained that I have commitments on Saturday but she could not give me any guarantees that I would be seen promptly, therefore I could not accept this appointment. She has agreed that some of their processes need to be looked into. I have advised that I will be billing them for my wasted time and effort. I will be informing the ombudsman of their breach in data protection.
